The sessions vary to some degree since I adapt them to my clients’ needs and personalities but they tend to follow certain general patterns.
We begin your journey with a no-strings-attached first discovery session where you will be informed about positive psychology and what the coaching process is like. This is also an opportunity to get a feel for me as a coach before you make any commitments. It is crucial that you feel trust towards me and experience some measure of personal chemistry between us. If the need arises, I will happily refer you to someone else who can better help you.
Next phase is about getting crystal clear about who you ultimately are, what you’re made of and what kind of a life your heart truly desires. We identify your core values and character strengths by exploring various existential themes and by using cutting-edge, scientific measurements. You fill out tests that measure various aspects of your well-being and generate insights about where you are in life right now. We explore your feelings and needs and you begin the process of establishing clear and meaningful goals for yourself.

We meet regularly (for example once a week) at my practice or via zoom or phone and we explore together your life situation and wellbeing. In-between session you are asked to reflect upon various existential themes and carry out personalized interventions that I have hand-picked for you. The aim here is for you to integrate new ideas and behaviors into your everyday life and form positive habits that will cause long-lasting changes in your life, relationships and work.
In order to face eventual setbacks and challenges we will strengthen your resilience by increasing your capacity for self-compassion which helps you overcome self-criticism and feelings of inadequacy. This can be done in the midst of your everyday life by tuning inwardly and connecting with your feelings and needs. It is possible to have high standards and strive to the top from an inner place of wholeness and kindness rather than insufficiency and fear.
Towards the end of our collaboration you fill out the same surveys in order to assess to what degree the coaching process has caused any real changes. Consider this as evidence of effectiveness. After a couple of months, we have a final follow-up session to assess how you have managed to stay on track by yourself. Since we aim towards self-sufficiency you should by now most likely have enough psychological momentum to continue your journey by yourself. Sometimes, a later booster-session might be helpful.
I work according to the ethical principles and code of conduct as stipulated for psychologist operating in Scandinavia. This entails, among many other things, confidentiality and a professional commitment to continuously keep myself updated on the latest advancements in the science of well-being.
Most clients are suitable but consider the following;
Imagine a spectrum ranging from -10 to +10, where the lowest point represents the worst possible state of mind/psychological life whereas the highest point represents the best possible. Traditional psychologists usually work with people at the negative end suffering from various mental disorders like clinical depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders etc. The task of the psychologist is to manage the disorder and reduce suffering with the aim to move towards healthy functioning somewhere around the zero target. This type of work is not within my competence.

Most humans do however seek more in life than mere healthy functioning. Functioning is necessary but not sufficient since most people will want to go beyond their weaknesses and problems and also focus on their strengths and possibilities in life. As positive psychology practitioners, we usually work with clients interested in exploring the upper reaches of the spectrum; states like happiness, hopefulness, flow, meaningfulness, flourishing relationships, gratitude etc. This often involves facing whatever is standing in the way by learning how to manage heavy feelings and challenging life situations.
When my clients contact me they are located somewhere just below 0 to all the way towards the higher reaches of 10. Just below 0 usually entails non-clinical forms of anxiety, depression, stress, self-criticism, poor life quality, lack of energy, meaninglessness etc. We offer several tools for these kinds of challenges. Most of my clients are however functioning and some would even consider themselves happy, yet curious about the upper reaches of the spectrum.

If you are at the far negative end of the spectrum, however, and want to collaborate with me, we may do so under the condition that we join hands with a licensed psychologist specialized in the condition you’re suffering from. I have worked in these types of triads for example with clients that have suffered trauma due to loss. The psychologist focuses on managing your disorder whereas I focus on helping you to live a truly fulfilling life. Research shows that psychological coaching of the sort I do can be used to prevent various mental disorders like depression and anxiety and works effectively in conjunction with psychotherapy.
